Whovians all over the universe are excited by the new scarf being sported by the 13th incarnation of The Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, in this years New Years Day Special sneak peek.
Featuring a vertical rainbow stripe, it is perfect for a crochet translation. Even better it is a great stash busting project.
The colour sequence you need is:
Bright red: chain + 1 row
Deep blood red: 1 row
Dark purple: 4 rows
Light purple: 1 row
Bright pink: 1 row
Peach: 1 row
Dark yellow: 1 row
Yellow: 3 rows
Sage green: 1 row
Green: 1 row
Light teal: 1 row
Teal: 1 row
Dark petrol blue: 1 row
Light blue: 1 row
Ice blue: 1 row
Peacock blue: 1 row
Black: 1 row
Electric blue: 20 rows
Fuschia: 1 row
My stash didn’t have all the shades so I compensated the best I could.
I recommend using moss stitch, which will create a warm close weave scarf with a small overlap between colours.
Moss stitch is created by repeating a sequence of sc1 and ch1 and skp1, subsequent rows the sc1 is worked into the ch1 space of the row below. The last sc1 of each round is worked into the centre of the loop created by the ch2 you do to start each round. If you find it easier a stitch marker can be placed into the centre of this loop to make it easier to identify.
I am using DK yarn and a 4.5mm hook.
Abbreviations:
sc: single crochet
ch: chain
skp: skip
sp: space
Pattern:
ch 252 (or more in even numbers if you would like a longer scarf)
Row 1: sc1 in the 4th ch from the hook, ch1 and skp1, *sc1 and ch1 and skp1* repeat until the last st, sc1, turn
Row 2: ch2, skp1, *sc1 into the next ch1-sp of the row below and ch1 and skp1* repeat until the last st sc1, turn.
Repeat row 2, following the colour sequence suggestions above to create your very own Thirteen Scarf.
When you are finished add tassels of matching colour to the edges of each row.
Thank you so much for the pattern Mel, definitely one that is on the list, he has his so on I will have mine.
Thank you! This is beautiful–uses my favorite colors.
Looks brill!
Can you tell me the size of the scarf pls?
The scarf is 130cm x 16cm but can be made longer and wider very easily if you wanted. To make it longer chain more at the start in even numbers and to make it wider I recommend increasing the number of electric blue rows.
Warm Regards Mel
Thank you!!!!!!! for doing this.
This is beautiful! Are you on Ravelry? I’m working on a knitted version. How long did you make it? The new scarf doesn’t appear as long, although it is wrapped loosely around her neck, so maybe a traditional 60”?
Thank you I am on Raverly under @MahoganyTurtle. The scarf is 130cm x 16cm but can be made longer and wider very easily if you wanted. To make it longer chain more at the start in even numbers and to make it wider I recommend increasing the number of electric blue rows.
Warm Regards Mel
I am in love!
How long are your tassels?
Hi Mona they are approximately 10cm/4”
Thanks! I’m about 1/2 done with the scarf.
Could you please tell me what weight yard you use? Thank you.
Hi I used DK weight and a 4.5mm hook
Mel
Thank you so much!!! : )
Your scarf is gorgeous but when I went online to order the colors you listed, none of them are available on the loveknitting/lovecrocheting website which I believe is the only online source for these yarns.
Beaut! I don’t have any yarn in this weight. When looking for a supply, these yarns come in more than one size. Can I get bye with a small skein of all the colors except the blue? How many ozs of blue will I need? Going to go on a trip and will take this to make.
Hi Ronda I stash dived for mine so don’t have exact meterage for each colour but definitely could get by with a 50gm ball of the blue and even mini skeins of the other colours.
Enjoy your trip x
